7 Habits that Hold You Back from Living Your Best Life

1)      Indecision because you want to control the outcome.

So often people want to do something, buy something, say something, etc. and they don’t because they want a specific outcome and don’t know if they will get it.  How do you know what the outcome will be until you try SOMETHING?  It could be even better than what you are imagining.  Jump into your life!

2)      Not telling others what you want.  Either expecting them to guess, or thinking what they want is more important.

I see this most often in working with couples.  People assume the other should automatically know what they need or want.  Then, when they don’t give them what they want (usually, though not always, because they didn’t know what they wanted) the partner gets angry.  What if you practiced telling people what you wanted instead of letting them guess.  Then, if they choose not to give it to you, you can choose your next step instead of taking the less powerful choice of waiting for them to be what you want without telling them what that is.

3)      Trying to predict your future so much that you don’t live it.

This goes with #1 with a twist.  I often see clients who have been to a lot of psychics who have told them a lot about what they see for their future.  This can be a gift and a burden for someone, depending on how they receive and process the information.

4)      Forgetting that practice makes perfect…perfection rarely instantaneously appears.

I want it now has become the motto for our culture but if you don't know something, it takes time

to develop a skill and honestly, the practice of something can be the greatest teacher. Once again,

slowing down on the path to smell the roses...and learn something. Give yourself a break and a

gift. Take the time to enjoy the process.

5)      Taking a defensive approach to life…for example, if someone doesn’t call you back, without knowing why, expecting the worst.

What would the world be like if we gave each other a break.  What if, instead of assuming

that someone is trying to hurt us, we take the stance that perhaps they misunderstood, or

perhaps we did.  Honestly, it's very rare that someone ACTUALLY tries to hurt someone else.

Let's take a gentler approach to life.  We just might find that what we put out there, comes back to

us tenfold.  Amazing how that still works.

6)      Thinking in black and white terms…for example, either something is right or wrong without a grey area.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RIGHT OR WRONG, everything is a grey area.  The more we

allow ourselves to realize this, the easier live is.  I know a woman who always thinks she is right.

She refuses to see anyone else's point of view, especially after she makes a value judgment.  She

has some very close friends, of course, friends who agree with her.  Once I asked her if perhaps

she might allow for an alternate view of something and she felt it wasn't worth it, she was right

and that was that.

How sad for her.  If someone is always right, they never break out of their world to see that other

views can really enhance your life.  I learn so much every day through the unique perspectives of

my wonderful clients.  Things I'd never think of on my own and perspectives I'd never come to on

my own.  Oh what a wonderful life living in the grey area, or what I like to think of as the juice

of life!

7)      Wanting to be right instead of wanting to communicate.

See #6 for more on this.  One final thought is that if we chose to understand instead of be right,

we actually might change our viewpoint.  So much for being right.

Enjoy and may your life be full of wonder, revelation and fun!

Blessings,
